AXA; an organization driven with a unique purpose of ‘acting for human progress and protecting what really matters’ is in lieu of this goal, organizing its unique annual program themed “AXA Week for Good”. The focus of this program is to dedicate a full week to propagating sustainability and sensitizing Nigeria about the perils of environmental hazardous wastes, and also the activities that the average Nigerian does that is inimical to the environment and hampers sustainable development.
This year’s edition of AXA Week for Good is focused on water (the lifeblood of our planet) and our marine life as a nation. Over 88% of plastic wastes in Nigeria are unrecycled and this and other waste disposal challenges makes Nigeria among the top 20 contributors of marine debris in the world according to the United Nations.
Waste is very inimical to our existence; it disrupts our ecosystem and throws it out of balance. Which is why AXA Week for Good serves as a beacon of hope in the development of our ecosystem by salvaging the quality of residents and vulnerable children in riverine communities using the ‘Trash-to-Treasure’ initiative. Trash will be collected from homes, workplaces and neighboring areas, and also, they will be a collective beach cleanup.
The most important part of this initiative is that the trash collected will be recycled and the revenue generated will be used to provide health insurance cover for 100 vulnerable children through the Chess-in-Slums Africa Foundation.
Even you can be a part of this initiative by garnering the trash that you use and instead of disposing them, you collate them and bring them to our collection points. To be a part of this initiative, click on the link below to get more information.
